Subscriber password authentication: Enabling access and creating passwords

Subscriber login options

In addition to having your own publication website, you can give your subscribers the option to log in using their own password. This guide covers the different ways subscribers can log in, some troubleshooting options, and frequently asked questions.

Read Online from your email

Subscribers can access your post online by clicking Read Online in their email newsletter. This will open the post in a new website tab. If the post is gated, subscribers will need to log into their account to view the content.

Home Page Login button

Subscribers can also log in directly from your publication website by clicking the Login button on the Home Page. This will open a login modal.

Logging in via email

On the login modal, subscribers can enter their account email and click the Send Login Link to Email button. They will receive an emailed login link, which they need to access.

Logging in via password

Subscribers can click Log in with password to enter their password directly. A login module will appear for them to input their details.

After entering their information, they can click the Log in button or select Log in with Magic Link.

Troubleshooting login issues

  • If subscribers experience issues logging in, they can click Set New Password to reset it.
  • If they don’t have an account yet, they can select Sign Up to create one.
Tech Note: The colors and fonts of the login page background and buttons are customized through your Website Builder > Settings. Featured examples may differ if you have set custom colors and fonts in your account.

Frequently asked questions about subscriber logins

What if my subscriber didn’t receive the Magic Link or password email?

First, verify that the subscriber is signed up for your publication by going to Audience > Subscribers in your account and searching for their email address. If they haven’t signed up, they won’t be able to receive a Magic Link or password email. In this case, they will need to sign up for your publication before requesting a Magic Link or setting a password.

The Magic Link and password emails are sent from our domain: buzz@tx2.beehiiv.com. Have your subscriber check all email folders, including spam/junk, and add our sending domain to their safelist. For detailed instructions on safelisting, visit our blog: How to Safelist Newsletter Senders on Popular Email Services.

Can a subscriber still log in with a Magic Link after setting up a password?

Yes, even after setting up a password, subscribers can choose to log in with either a Magic Link or their password.

How do I reset my subscriber’s password?

A publication can send a Reset Password email to their subscribers by selecting Reset Password from the dropdown in a subscriber’s profile.

Alternatively, a subscriber can reset their own password. To do so, they will need to click on the login page, select Reset Password, enter their email address, and they will receive an email with instructions to update their password.

What if my subscriber received an email to reset their password but didn’t request it?

Your subscriber can simply ignore the email if they did not initiate the password reset. No changes will be made to their account.

What if I don’t recognize the publication I received a password reset email from?

If you're receiving a password reset email from a publication you don't recognize, you can click the Unsubscribe link in the footer of the email to stop receiving future emails.

Can the links come from my custom domain?

Currently, links cannot come from your custom domain. However, we recognize the importance of custom domains for branding and user experience, and we are actively exploring options to make this feature available in the future.

How can I turn off the password option for my publication?

To disable the password option, go to Design > Website Builder > Settings > Security. Scroll down to the Log In section and toggle off the option for Subscriber Password Log In.

What does the login page look like when ‘Subscriber Password Log In’ is turned off?

When toggled off in your publication's Security Settings, the login page will only display the option for subscribers to receive a Magic Link by email.
